so i have been posting lately (it’s really funny, seeing that i have two posts anyway) but it’s almost over, because my exam days are almost over. By emphasizing “almost” im trying to convince myself that i have one more final project to do and i really have to work on it, but apprently my finger do not want to follow my order and now they are typing against my will. so i guess, eh whatever, ill just make one post.

anyway, due the extreme nature of relationship between asians and exams, i have found myself locking up all my gaming consoles (exception of pc). So i havent turned on my wii, ps3, ds, heck, even my trusty dvd player i got for free, for over 2 weeks. No valkyria, no Travis, no Leon, no Lloyd, no nothing. Just no. but my pc survived, and i have been keeping up with pc games for a while, although i deleted half of my games to increase my free space on hard drive, which, i found very fascinating since no matter how much i delete, the space won’t get bigger. (THAT explains my low marks) So i decided to just go w/e and start playing games, who cares about exams, eh?

So basically i installed Tick!Tack! fron navel. If you uhh don’t know about this game, you better stay away from this game, and even if you do, uhh get away from this game. Those of you who played or watched (i recommend ‘watching’ but drawing style sucks on anime) shuffle, you will have a vague idea about what this game is about. It’s basically a sequel (…that is nothing more than a fan disc) to shuffle, featuring Nerine as the main heroine. and uhh we all know what fan discs are for. now let’s move on. why am i even playing this game anyway? i know the story anyway. i should delete this. yes i really should.

Another game i hooked up was Magical Battle Arena (why the heck am I playing these games!! i want to know). No, this is nothing M-rated, nor is it a fantasy themed gladiatorial game. It’s a doujin (fan-made) mahou shoujo fighting game, but in a way it’s not really ‘fighting’ game, like soul calibur or tekken, but more of a hybrid of shooter plus melee fight. The perfect example of this type would be Higurashi Daybreak, but if there’s anyone who know this game I’d be surprised. The game itself isn’t really bad. There is about 10 or so characters that are playable if you patched to newest and have lyrical pack, which essentially is an expansion pack. It’s a doujin game so the developers took liberty in using liscenced characters, such as nanoha, fate, sakura (card captor), sarara, Lina inverse (slayers) and so on. The graphic is fairly adequate quality considering it’s fan-made game, and there are some balancing issue and some control issues here and there, but nonetheless one of the better games in doujin area. but man. sakura is so hard to beat…..

now let’s look to somewhat casual(?) games. currently i have only 2 games on my ps3, and i have decided it’s time to change that and give my extremely expensive ps3 the love it deserves. I am thinking of picking up burnout paradise (if they have a copy that is) and eternal sonata after my exam and my birthday, which is coming up soon. And i have convinced myself to buy zack and wiki for wii too, since it’s 20 bucks anyway.

and i still have to decide whether to buy killzone 2 or not. i havent played the 1st or liberation, and as a single player gamer, im concerned if the stories are something that needs to be taken in account when playing the second in series.

for anime, nothing really much is happening. havent kept up with anime for 2 weeks now… oh, i watched this yuri anime called shoujo sect and uhhhhhhhh GAWWWWWWWWWWW i would rather die than talk about that thing

ps. for your own sake, plz do not go to google and search the games i mentioned

Well, there’s nothing really great happening around me, you know, a normal high school life as asian. You go to school, you meet your sick friends, you come back from school, you do your stuff (whatever the hell it is), you do your homework, you go to bed, back to start.

But things did happen, although they are not as significant as what they are doing in Gaza right now (plz god stop), so im here to just make a post about it.

First of all, in a bizarre turn of events, i found myself owning a PS3. An 80gig model, 2 usb-port (i know, but my uncle’s giving me ps2 i think), with MGS4 with the console, and Valkyria Chronicles, which i bought the day after. I have about 2 hours on my MGS4, with just Act1 finished, while i have about 10 hours on VC already, while i am only at chapter 6. I gotta admit, SEGA did make a killer Strategy/RPG/Shooter game with VC, with cutting edge Cell-Shaded graphics which, to come to think about it, they have invented back in dreamcast days, with Jet Grind Radio. I’ll talk about the game later on, if i get the time. And Selvaria is hawt. Rock on. But one thing I can say about the game right now is if you own ps3, and looking for a deep strategy game, you really can’t go wrong with VC. You can even make up your squad full of hot chicks, all voiced in English, and thank god, also in Japanese. Harem Squad. Again, rock on. And this game is made by Skies of Arcadia devs, which again, is great.

I have started paying attention to my DS a little bit more also. While I am not playing any DS game at the moment, I am starting Pokemon Firered again, or should I say moemon, a hacked pokemon game that you will know more about if you search it up in google.

I started playing Wii again, probably about 2 months since the last time i played. Im beginning to blaze through No More Heroes, which I believe is one of the finest wii game ever made. Sure, it is not even comparable to Brawl, Galaxy, or Twilight Princess in terms of perfection, but even if it is not perfect, does not mean you cant love it. I absolutely adore the game, with its crazy combat system that doesnt really get tiresome, unique bosses and characters that are crafted so well, that every one of them should be regarded as best game characters in 2008. And the cutscenes. Where do I begin. Let’s just put it this way: the dialogues are hilarious, cutscenes are stylized, and it is pure gorefeast for those who thirst for blood. It is a game of love-hate depending on personal taste, but if you liked Killer7, or if you just wanna chop bad guys in half and decafnate 4 of them at once, this is game for you.

Im currently on-hold with Okami, and RE4, which i play from time to time, is also something that can be recommended. It seems, RE4 on wii is actually not just a half-assed port, but an enhanced port, with all the ps2 goodies in tact, with natural motion-controls. And the original game itself was just damn good, so RE4, unless they just had to go and eff it up like what they did with PC version, there is no way that it was going to be bad. And unlike PS2 and PC ports, the graphic seems to have improved from its Game Cube original, making it possibly the most definitive version of RE4. And since now I have PS3, I have the means to play RE5 also, which is great.

On PC, I deleted most of my games, except for few, since I just don’t need them sitting around taking my already-filled hard-drive. And instead of actual PC gaming, I have got myself into emulation, partly because of PS3′s Dual Shock’s compatibility as a PC game pad. PS1 games work great, where it is absolutely necessary for action games. It works great for N64 with little twick, and thankfully, all the Rare masterpiece such as GoldenEye and Perfect Dark works fairly well. Also the Sin and Punishment works great, which is awesome, since that is one of the games that I really wanted to play. GBA, NES, SNES, Neo-Geo all work great, where they really did not need it, it is great to have an alternate controller, since it will be easier to play two players then.

And… enter Dreamcast. Yes, this miserably raped SEGA console actually had surprising number of gems, starting from everyone’s favourite Soul Caliber, they also had Dead or Alive 2, Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, and of course, Shenmue and the great IKARUGA. It is ironic that in Japan, they are still making games for Dreamcast, where the production of GC games have been stopped. It was one of the Japanese games that hooked me up to DC, called Triggerheart Exelica, which, umm, you can look it up on google. It’s pretty refreshing shmup (shoot ‘em ups), in a way that it lets you fire cable onto other ships to have it on your control, then use it as shield to block the enemy fire, or just swing it around and throw it into enemy to do a double-kill. The control, it seems, are not as fluid as touhou, but it is still a enjoyable game, especially when considering that it is mecha girls.

other than that yeah im not sure if there is anything more to talk about, other than that i hate school and all the school go to hell lalalalalalala

These are personal choices, so please don’t go berserk on them. Please. Keep your swearing and violent fists to your siblings and teachers.
Please note that all these themes are with vocals. Otherwise, it would be filled with Touhou and FF.
This also does not include any Doujin songs. Otherwise, it would be filled with J and IOSYS.
And these are themes from only anime and manga. Movies don’t count.
And I haven’t watched or played many animes or games yet, so it may be little limited.

50. What’s Up People?
by MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
from Death Note

The song of your heart. It is a song that warms your mind with emotions and happiness. The lyrics are delightfully happy and the slowly paced melody calms your mind. … And take what I have just said and reverse it completely and you get MTH’s “What’s Up People?”. This death metal song, although not calm nor sooths in anyway, rather make you go berserk with headbanging and drill a hole through ur neighbours wall, is a great song nonetheless. And it has a lot of F-words. Yes. My kind, I’d say.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBs_XtmJjGY

49. Leaf Ticket
by KOTOKO
from Parfait ~Chocolat Second Brew~

From one of the best eroges ever made, in my opinion that is, KOTOKO’s Leaf Ticket is a soothing song and is great to listen to. The lyrics are not bad either, and melody is very pleasant.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zmppb7RNDDE

48. だんご大家族 (Dango Daigazoku “Dango Family”)
by Chata
from CLANNAD (Anime)

Dango Dango Dango Dango Dango Dango and Dango. What do you want more other than more Dango.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L4rIBQGt4M

47. allegretto ~そらときみ~ (allegretto ~Kimi to Sora~ “allegretto ~You and the Sky~”)
by KOTOKO
from Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku wo (Promise to this Blue Sky) Game

You will hear this, and will think about a beautiful beach under a sunny day. That’s half true because the eroge takes place on an island. Just like other KOTOKO songs, this song is just full of spirit and its upbeat and light nature is a great appeal.

46. Disillusion
by Tainaka Sachi
from Fate/Stay Night (Anime)

Fits the anime perfectly in my opinion. Much better than THIS ILLUSION (game version).
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z24SnbJYBzU

45. Mirage Lullaby
by YURIA
from SHUFFLE! (Game)

I don’t know. I just like YURIA’s voice.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCN2v-ths1A&feature=related

by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION
from Naruto

One of the first Asikang songs that got famous. I used to listen to this song over and over, but now i just listened to it too much. The base part on the opening is kickass (which is deleted in TV version)
40. The Brilliant World
by Oda Kaori
from Luminous Arc

The infamous opening song that made numerous people buy the game, only to go “WTF”. But song’s that good. The opening for second game, “Unlimited World” by KΛNΛ is pretty awesome too.
by Oku Hanako
from Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)

Oku Hanako’s songs are just so calm and beautiful. And that’s a good thing. I was crying when this song was on during the ending credits. A beautiful movie, a beautiful song. “Tegami” by the same artist is great too.
34. Face of Fact
by KOTOKO
from Balder Force EXE

Although I haven’t played the game yet (waiting for the patch), nor watched the anime, this song is pretty awesome. It feels little like Oblivion, sensitive, Re-Sublimity, and other songs by KOTOKO. It was once rated as second best Eroge song, after Tori no Uta. I love GIGA anyway.
30. Remember Memories
by YURIA
from Really? Really!

The song, in my opinion, is better than SHUFFLE’s OP, for some weird reason I am not sure of. The game? I don’t know, they are both not that good. What’s up with the arrows anyway lol? It’s like Luminous Arc Eroge version: Good Opening, Bad Game.
23. Why, of Why Not
by Katagiri Rekka
from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When Cicadas Cry) Anime

The best Higurashi song. I personally didn’t like Naraku no Hana. Rekka-san’s English pronunciation is, well, not better than other Japanese singers, but the song itself is just so good.
16. In The Sky

THE BACK HORN, one of my favourite J-ROCK metal group, made an awesome song. Great vocal and great riff. The crazy opening intro part is great too. 00 seems to have great song AND story. Great for us viewers.
by ICHIKO
from Zero no Tsukaima ~Futatsuki no Kishi~ (Familliar of Zero ~The Knight of Two Moons~)

ICHIKO is similar to those of Mizuki Nana and KOTOKO, but this song is good on its own right. Very powerful song, and I loved the anime too. Too bad the third season went retarded. The wedding version, AKA piano version, is great too.
by Hirano Aya
from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi)

The solos are great. One of the only Japanese song that I found the solo great. And the vocals are not bad either, as long as it’s not live. The live is just… just… ugh. I gotta admit, Aya is great seiyuu, but have to improve if she wants to be a great singer. Lost My Music is great song too.

I don’t know how, but one day, I fell in love with this song. It’s still a mystery, but this song is great. Similar to some of Hashimoto Miyuki songs I believe. Anime, I’m not sure, because I haven’t finished it yet, but manga is, let’s just put it this way, the only manga that made me cry.
from Sore wa, Maichiru Sakura no Youni (Cherry Petals fall like tear drops)

A great song for a great game. I love the heavy guitar riffs. Well, this is actually not IN the game, and is more of a remake/remix version of the original, titled Beloved ~Sakura no Kanata~. The opening of the game, Days, is an awesome song too. Lastly, all hail Yukimura.
by ALI PROJECT

The flower of Kuro-Ari song. It’s off-beat parts are just dead-on, the lyrics are great as always, and the whole atmosphere is just right on the spot. An absolute classic. 1. 薔薇獄乙女 (Baragoku Otome “Rose Hell Girl”)
by ALI PROJECT
from Rozen Maiden Ouverture

As a huge fan of ALI PROJECT, this song, effectively making a Shiro-Ari song into somewhat fast paced song, in my opinion, is one of the best song they have ever produced. The lyrics, as usual, are beautifully poetic and metaphoric, with its meaning delightfully disturbing (not as some other songs though). The violin parts are amazing as always, and the high pitch vocals are impressive. I was disappointed that most of the anime themes ALI PROJECT work on are Kuro-Ari, till I found this song. A truly maginificent song. If you liked this, chances are you will like S-jou no Himeyaka na Kaikon, Narcisse Noir (amazing), Soubikakei (equally amazing), and Chinkonshou.

Just like I said,
Part 2.

* “Onee-Sama” means “Big Sister”. -Sama is a formal way of saying “san”, which can be translated into Miss, Mr., Mrs., and Ms. Therefore Onee-Sama is a very formal way of saying “Big sister” with great respect.
* “Cooldere” is a term that was made with combination of “cool” and “dere”. “Dere” means to like, or indicates the soft, romatic part of (mostly) female character. The term usually refers to a character who are generally silent and doesnt show much emotions but have feelings for the main character. They usually have hard time expressing their feelings. The examples are Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nagato Yuki from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, and Primula from SHUFFLE!.
* “Yandere” is a term that was made through combination of “yan” and “dere”. “Yan” comes from Japanese word that means “to be sick, to have sickness”. Therefore yandere refers to a (mostly) a female character who like (mostly) the main character to the extreme point, that without him, she (or he) would die of loneliness(soemthing like this). Example of this kind of character is most notably Katsura Kotonoha from School Days, where she just go berserk at the end. It can also refers to a character with two-faced personality, not necessarily Mr. Eckhart’s Batman villain, but more of a character that hides his or her true intentions behind his or her smiling face. Examples would be Lelouch from Code Geass, Light from Death Note, Asakura Ryoko from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. You can say Ms. Nina Myers (May she rest in peace) is somewhat yeandere too.
* “Dojitko” refers to characters who tries hard to impress but always fails to do so by making various seemingly very basic mistakes. For example, a heroine who is dojitko, when she is a waitress in a cafe, she is portrayed as an innocent character who falls over very easily (they possess a strange and curious skill to fall over even on flat ground with nothing on) and spills the beverages, etc. They are usually very innocent characters, who cries a lot. Examples are Asahina Mikuru from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu(When you think about it, SHNY has almost all the character types), Takara Miyuki from Lucky Star, and Komaki Manaka from ToHeart2. Sometimes refered as Hetare.

カオスヘッド
Chaos;HEAd

Genre: Psychological thriller with a hint of Love Comedy and a lot of Fantasy

What’s Up?: For those of you who have not heard of the company Nitro+(Saya no Uta, Demon Bane), and probably not many Western audiences are familliar with them, this maybe new. Based on the visual novel of same name, Chaos;Head is about a series of unnatural events that occurs in Shibuya(no, it has nothing to do with The World Ends With You), called New Generation Incidents. The main character, voiced by Yoshino Hiroyuki(Allelujah Haptism in Gundam 00), finds himself witnessing one of the events, a murder, and starts to become paranoid. Then, the murderer he witnessed appears in his school, claiming that she is his friend. Confused by the events, Takumi, the main protagonist, runs away, and hides himself in Internet cafes. Even in there, he gets involved in other New Generation Incident, making him despair more. As the stroy progresses, more and more questions are thrown in, with more interesting characters get involved with Takumi.

Impressions?: It is one of the delightful surprises of this season, i believe. Personally, I did not have much hopes for this one, and thought it was just another mindf*ck material, but it turned out that it was interesting, not too hard, and keeps you on the edge of the seat. Its psychological side and the description of paranoid teenager fearing murder is quite realistic and dramatic at the same time. Sure, it does have its moment when it feels a little awkward, especially the whole concept of fantasy, but overall, the plot is highly satisfying. The anime offers an interesting cast of characters, ranging from S Onee-sama to cooldere chick, yandere dojitko, and an Imouto. One thing I have hard time getting over with the character is the main character. As a Hikikomori and an otaku, the protagonist’s actions and dialouges are sometimes way too… retarded. Seriously, that’s the only way to put it. The breakdown in the drawing is quite serious too, I have noticed few in the second episode and I have come to a point to acknowledge their existence with ease. The opening was sung by Itou Kanako (School Days Ending) and is one of the best opening of the season, if not the best. The seiyuu performances have no problem, but it is not exceptional either. One thing I would like to mention is that, personally, after watching Chaos;Head, I had hard time watching Gundam 00, especially when Allelujah speaks, because I tend to keep imagining the face of Takumi.

Final Score!: 8.0/10
The good – Very intriguing story; Varied cast of characters; Kick-ass opening theme.
The bad – Severe breakdown in drawing; Sometimes the fantasy concept feel a bit awkward; The main character is a fag; I mean, a real fag

ヒャッコ
HYAKKO

Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life

What’s Up?: Recently, the field of web-comics are becoming and increasing sensation, with number of them even made into animes. Hyakko is not much different in that sense, with its origin being the web-comic of the same name. Takes place in Uezono Academy, the anime depicts the life of a class full of unique characters. For it being a slice of life anime, it obviously does not have a strong plot, like sitcoms, it does have interesting story settings that will get readers hooked easily. From outside, I have to admit, it does look like kind of Lucky Star, with 4 girls with completely different personality, classmates full of unique characters, a teacher who does not teach (yet again), and so on. However, it does have its own charm, and altough it does not offer almost any parodies, and tries to distinguish itself with its charm. There are many seiyuus who are recognizable, for instance, Fujiwara Keiji (Ali-Al Sarches from Gundam 00, Maes Hughs from Fullmetal Alchemist, Sven from Black Cat) as the teacher, and at the same time, there are several new faces.

Impressions?: Great. The humours, although they are no parodies, it’s just hilarious. The each characters are very well-written and acted. Hirano Aya’s surprising cast as Mayumi, who is dojitko, is fresh and pleasure to listen. Both Torako, voiced by Orisaka Fumiko (Seras Victoria from HELLSING, Ciel from Tsukihime), and Suzume, voiced by Ochiai Yurika (Yuzuhara Konomi from ToHeart2), all fit there characters well enough. Neya Michiko’s (Melissa Mao from Full Metal Panic!, Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist) portrayal of a tsundere rich girl fits right in the character, while Horie Yui’s character is also not bad. However, some of the new seiyuus have rooms to improve. But overall, the true gem of this anime, as mentioned above, is the humour. It is as funny as Lucky Star, and is one of the best comedy of the season along with Kannagi. The cast of unique characters are delightful joy to look at, from a bisexual female student (Best character in Hyakko in my opinion) to most emo-est girl you can ever find, Robot-obsessed mad scientist, a character who never talks, a little genius who jumped elementary and middle school (think Azumanga), and on and on. The drawing styles are, although not bad, sometimes seem awkward to look at. The ending theme is sung by Hirano Aya, and is pleasure to listen to. Feels bit like God Knows.

Final Score!: 9.0/10
The good - Great cast of unique characters; Seiyuus are not bad; Great ending theme; It’s just damn too hilarious
The bad – some of the seiyuus are not up to the par; Drawing style could be improved

So here you are, my impressions of this season.
Hope you enjoyed it.

Since I am actually a student who actually goes to school everyday, I am only about watching 8 series right now. And that’s including Clannad, which I haven’t even started yet.

I know it’s little late in the game, but here are my impressions up till now.

* For the Japanese names, I used Asian way of writing, family name first then the first name at the end. Exceptions are when the character’s name is pronounced in Western way in original.
* The translation for anime names are mostly done by me. They are not official.
* Seiyuu means “voice actors”
* Imoto means “younger sister”
* Tsundere is a type of a character who are “soft in the inside, aggressive on the outside”. Examples are Shana and Louise, and other roles done by Kugimiya Rie. “Tsun” represents the aggressive side, while “dere” means the soft side.

あかね色に染まる坂
Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (AKA Akasaka)
The Hill Dyed with the Evening Glow

Genre: Typical Harem with emphasis on IMOTO

What’s Up?: Well, this anime is obviously based on eroge of the same name(by looking at the name, since only eroges are named like that), developped by feng in 2007, where it was controversial with the main character’s sister being one of the main heroines(it was released soon after the marriage restrictions between close-relations were lifted). But anime is attracting people’s eyes not with its concepts, but more because of the staff behind it. The series is directed by Monotaga Keitaro(School Days) and written by Uezu Makoto(School Days, Seto no Hanayome). There is obviously a trend going on here, and you are right, the whole staff of School Days is behind this project, which is great, considering how impactful School Days was when it was released back in 2007. Sure, by the look of the original, there will be no rape scene(…), no main character with 7 girlfriends at the same time(…), no 4p(…), no H-practice(…), no kitchen knife(…), no “Nice Boat”, nor the good ol’ hand saw.
The seiyuus are the ones to look at also. To start off, we have Hirano Aya(Suzumiya Haruhi in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Izumi Konata in Lucky Star) as main character’s controversial younger sister, Nagase Minato, and Kugimiya Rie(ugh, where do I start…. Louise in Zero no Tsukaima, Shana in Shakugan no Shana, Sanzenin Nagi in Hayate no Gotoku!, Kagura in Gintama, Alphonse Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, Marta Lualdi in Tales of Symphonia 2: Knight of Ratatosk, and countless other tsunderes including the game roles) as Katagiri Yuuhi, Tanaka Rie(Sugintou in Rozen Maiden, Lacus Clyne in Gundam SEED, Maria in Hayate no Gotoku!) as Shiina Mitsuki, Kato Emiri(Hiiragi Kagami in Lucky Star, Blair in Soul Eater) as Ayanokouji Karen, Inoue Marina(Yoko in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Tsukiumi in Sekirei, Minami Kana in Minami-ke) as Kiryuu Tsukasa, and the list goes on and on…
The opening of the song done by Hashimoto Miyuki(Katori Rea in Parfait ~Chocolat Second Brew~, Nerine in SHUFFLE!, Otome in School Days, and SHUFFLE! ending, LikeLife opening), one of my favourite J-POP singers. The ending, like School Days, changes with every episode, which is interesting.

Impression?: Ok, if you haven’t been in this business long enough, or you just happen to not watch harem in your anime life yet, this is a good starter in a way SHUFFLE! was a good starter for soon-to-be eroge players (just let you know, I am being sarcastic here). But if you have been crawling on this floor long enough, you will know it’s just yet another typical harem on your way. So, you have hot younger sister who takes care of you till the end of the world, check. And a tsundere Fiancee chosen by your parents, check. A daughter from rich family who happens to be your classmate AND likes you, check. A teacher who doesn’t teach you a shit, check. A president of the student council who happens to be loli AND older than you, check. Another hot female classmate friend who looks as if she has hots for you, check. And the list goes on and on and on… Let’s face it. Except for those who are looking for real Imoto-moe, and maybe some tsundere, it’s just way too typical to be anything exceptional. But seiyuu line-up is, without a question, the best in this season, so if you are like me who just watch it for the sake of seiyuus(Or if you play Luminous Arc Undubbed just to listen to Hirano Aya melting you ears and heart), this is no problem. Just don’t expect anything like School Days. That means no rape scene, no 4p, no H-practice, no kitchen knife, no saw… Agh, I explained it well enough already.

Final Score!: 7.0/10
The good – Almost divine seiyuu line-up; Hashimoto Miyuki’s opening; Dude, it’s harem!
The bad – Constant breakdown in drawing; Not much story for now; Dude, it’s harem.

とある魔術の禁書目録
Toaru Majutsu no Index
A Certain Magic’s Forbidden Text

Genre: School Fantasy

What’s Up?: One of the most famous light novels in the country of Rising Sun right now becoming an anime is good enough of a reason to look at this one. Made by J.C. Staff(Shakugan no Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, Tsukihime, Excel Saga, and the list goes on and on for this one also), this is one of those somewhat typical, tried-and-true School Fantasy anime. It HEAVILY resembles Shakugan no Shana, from the atmosphere to the opening. Although the concept departs itself from Shana in many ways, the fact that J.C. is making it makes the viewers feel like watching a new Shana. The setting of the anime takes place in a sci-fi city of Super Humans who uses psychic powers(yeah, i know. It sounds real bad when you write it down in English), and a secret magic society also co-existing within the shadows. Apparently the main heroine, voiced by Iguchi Yuka(Irukukwu from Zero no Tsukaima), has photogenic memory, and the Church, the magic society(I don’t know, why is church associated with magic in first place?), decides to shove 103,000 books on black magic into her memory, instead of sending her to Standford where she will kick ass. And now she is being chased by these magicians who are apparently trying to kill her, and just like any other shonen hero, the main character just have to stand up and fight for the girl he just met few hours ago and get himself screwed on the way. And added to that, the main hero doesn’t have any psychic powers, but only the power to erase any unnatural powers, including magic and psychic, called the Imagine Breaker. I know. This guy is cheap. Dang. The fight scenes are a joy to look at, if somewhat overdone, and the setting itself, although it is very bad when you read it, is well-constructed. And the teacher’s loli. I mean, a real loli. I think that’s enough reason why you should check it out right there.

Impression?: First of all, as I said before, it looks like J.C. is going to pull Shana on this. That means 24 episode at least on the first season, an undebatable chance of it being made into second season, with full-fledged movie coming in also. Although none of these are confirmed yet, from the look of it, it’s almost too obvious to even think about it. The obvious reason why it will be like this is because of the crazy slow pace of the story. There are a lot of actions and fight scenes, but they just take so much time to the point it is unquestionable that they are taking time on purpose. However, story itself, although progessing in a rather slow pace, is great, especially considering how unique the setting is. The one difference with Shana is, though, that there is no real tsundere yet. And even if there is one, she won’t be anywhere near of being a main heroine. As a hardcore Tsundere moe, it is little disappointing. However, do not despair, for they have lolis. Yes.

Final Score!: 8.0/10
The good – Interesting Story; Eye-catching fight scenes; The teacher is loli; Index is loli too
The bad – Slow pace in storytelling; Feels too much like Shana; No real tsun going on around here

かんなぎ
Kannagi
Crazy Shrine Maiden

Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life, Mahou Shoujo(!)

What’s Up?: What’s up, you say, huh? This is THE anime to watch in this season. It is directed by the Yamamoto Yutaka(Lucky Star Opening and episodes 1 to 5, Suzumiya Haruhi Ending, various episodes in Kyoto Anime works), the genius “director” who happens to fall short of “The Status of Director” through the eyes of Kyoto Anime. Yes. This is the genius behind the Hare Hare Yukai dance that crazed up every anime-loving person around the world. Yes. This is the genius that made Lukcy Star dance for Nicodong to make countless MAD movie based on it. And after being fired in Kyoto Anime, Yamamoto comes to A-1 Pictures, and brings us his vengeful work, Kannagi. The setting of the anime is quite simple, as a goddess suddenly appears in main character’s house and start living in the house. Pretty typical setting, I admit, but the way it was executed is completely fresh. The writer, Kurata Hideyuki(HELLSING ULTIMATE OVA, Excel Saga, R.O.D) is also very well-known, making the staff even better. The main heroine, Nagi, is voiced by Tomatsu Haruka(Lala in ToLove-ru), a rising star in the seiyuu business.

Impression?: Perfection redefined. That’s the only way I can put it. It is hilarious beyond any imagination, at the same time it stays true to the story. The characters are unique and alive with full of spirit, and most of all, the parody is beyond anything you will ever witness. That is to say, it is sometimes even better than Lucky Star. The personal grudge to Kyoto Anime Yamamoto shows on fifth episode was the gem of comedy anime that will be remembered in years to come. The opening is directed by Yamamoto also, with its quality good enough to match that of his previous work, Hare Hare Yukai. The Seiyuus are near perfect, with Tomatsu Haruka fitting as Nagi almost perfectly, and Sawashiro Miyuki(Shinku in Rozen Maiden, Aruruu in Utawarerumono) and Hanazawa Kana(Suzuki Sora in Mahoutsukai ni Taisetsuna Koto) fitting surprisingly well in their roles as Aoba Tsugumi and Zange-Chan. The drawing and the animation quality defies the modern anime standards and thrives itself to be even better than some of the OVAs out there, or even some movies. And the main heroine is flat-chested. That is an automatic win. Yamamoto just owned Kyoto Anime right in the face.

Final Score!: 10/10
The bad – Nothing

Kido Senshi Gandamu Daburu O
Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Genre: This is Gundam. I think you will figure out what genre it is then.

What’s Up?: This is the Sunrise’s Golden Boy. It is true that after Code Geass’ unmatched popularity, Gundam series moved to the second place and the next in the series had to be a classic to match the newcomer(although they are both made in the same company). Especially after considering how SEED series was miserable, the new Gundam had to be epic. And it was. Gundam 00 magnificently cleared its not-so-good predecessor and managed to establish itself as a classic of its own. The long-awaited second season of this new Gundam is equally excellent as its predecessor, with complicated storyline and interesting political issues at hand. The enormous cast of characters, which with unique background and personality adds flavour to already-fascinating story. It is directed by Mizushima Seiji(Fullmetal Alchemist) and written by Kuroda Yosuke(Excel Saga, Ohkiku Furikabutte).

Impression?: It’s great. The seiyuus are great, writing is great, the story is great, the characters are great, the mecha designs are divine, the fight scenes are amazing. But compare to Code Geass, where a plot twisted existed virtually on every single episodes, it is rather moving on calm pace. Yes, as in entertainment-wise, the fast-paced story of Code Geass will surely win most of the viewers, but Gundam 00′s rather calm, yet carefully paced story is great in its own right. Moreover, Mr. Bushido is just pure ownage since he is so cool, and interesting changes that are made in the transition to the second season (4 years passed since where the first seasonleft off) makes the Gundam fans more intrigued by the story. Also, the inner conflicts of the characters make the story even deeper, and will surely appeal to those who look for serious and satisfyingly complicated storyline. The mecha fights are the gem of this anime also. While Code Geass, though it did have some good action sequences, emphasized on the clever storytelling rather than the battle scenes, Gundam 00′s action is ruthless. Every animation is satisfying, and the space battles are dazzling. Mecha designs are, just like the predecssor, exceptional, if not too overpowered sometimes. The opening by UVERworld(Bleach, D. Gray-Man, Blood+ Openings) is one of the best opening in the season, while the ending by Ishikawa Chiaki(Bokurano, Gundam SEED Endings) feels somewhat out of the line.

Final Score!: 9.0/10
The good – Intriguing plot; Amazing fight scenes; Equally amazing mecha designs; Great opening
The bad – Pace is little slow in comparison to Code Geass; New Lockon is way too cokcy; Somewhat unfitting ending theme; No flat-chested girls; The fact that it came right after Code Geass itself is a bad choice

とらドラ!
Toradora!
Tiger and Dragon will be the literal translation :)

Genre: School Life. NOT harem

What’s Up?: One of the J.C. Staff’s fall line-up, Toradora is also one of the most famous light novel in Japan right now, with its unique setting and story. When you think of anime and school life, it is, most of the times, bound to be harem. This one, however, is not. The two main character, Takasu Ryuuji and Aisaka Taiga, are bonded not by love, but in a collaboration to win the each other’s friends’ heart. Ryuuji, who looks threatening yet has a warm heart, takes care of Taiga, who is the opposite case in terms of appearance, and during their operation, they come to a point where the whole school thinks they are in love with each other, when it is quite the opposite case. In an attemp to sort out the problem and accomplish the primary goal, they help each other. The seiyuus are near perfect on this one too, with Kugimiya Rie(I already explained about her above so I won’t bother this time) as Aisaka Taiga, Horie Yui(Sawachika Eri in School Rumble, Shirakawa Kotori and Asakura Yume in D.C. Dacapo Series, Miyanokouji Mizuho in Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru, Tsukimiya Ayu in Kanon, Siesta in Zero no Tsukaima, Hanyu in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and on and on and on) as Kushieda Minori, and Kitamura Eri(Kokonoe Rin in Kodomo no Jikan, Shiranui Akeno in Seto no Hanayome) as Kawashima Ami.

Impression?: Amazing. With recent milkages from J.C.Staff, this one is a nice welcome. It is fresh, funny and delightfully delicious. Kugimiya Rie and Kitamura Eri does an excellent job portraying their character, but the true award goes to Horie Yui. Horie Yui’s performance defines what the perfect voice acting truly is. Her character is amazingly realistic to the point you will believe that the anime character has her own voice. The story is nothing dynamic, yet it delivers a knock-out humours. The unique setting is great enough to comfort the thirst for non-harem love comedy fans, and the character interactions are superb. Only thing that is little unsatisfactory is the quality of drawing style, which definitely has room for improvements. However, it is passable and does not detract the fun hidden inside the show, so it wouldn’t be a problem. As long as it is not old school Key games, it’s good. Aisaka Taiga is a charming character as a tsundere, one of Kugimiya Rie’s best performance yet. The flat-chested beauty shines through our stereotypical popular culture(ugh… ignore that sentence please). Ryuuji’s unique character as non-shonen type is a delightful welcome for those who search for something new. And the parrot. The parrot establishes itself as a key point in this anime with its unique charm and hilarious moments. Lastly, the ending. THE BEST EFFING ENDING EVER. Period. Thank you very much.

Final Score!: 9.5/10
The good – Fresh, unique take on somewhat typical genre; Hilarious humours; Exceptional performances by seiyuus; It’s not harem; Kugiming’s loli tsundere; The parrot; Best ending ever. period
The bad – Somewhat unsatisfying drawing style; Sometimes the story feel too fast paced; Opening feels old

Yes, I’m a pretty hardcore Nintendo fan(wait, i dont like mario that much tho ’0′), and I only own Wii/DS for my gaming, if you do not include my PC. So, at least for this generation, Nintendo is the king of the gaming industry. DS and Wii are making more than triple the money they required to make those systems, and the games they created are considered as great revival of classics, for example, Mario Kart Wii, stepping over the disastrous predecessor(I personally didn’t like Double Dash, although I loved Peach/Daisy team because they were so annoying to my opponents every single time I switched the driver). But as a somewhat hardcore gamer, I do feel that Wii and DS are not giving sufficient opportunity to the more “core gamers”, as Nintendo puts it, to enjoy Nintendo’s inventions and restrict their choices to very limited selections. Surely enough, Nintendo’s first-party library is almost flawless, and it does happen to have a lot of third-party developers under its wings, but this doesn’t mean better choice for hardcore gamers. Rather, since the company’s change of shift from focusing on gaming population to more broader sense, that anyone can play and enjoy video games, brought somewhat unnecessary side-effects that caused complaints among the core gamers. Since Wii and DS is “family-friendly” the chance became slim to have deep, challenging, and epic games, and Wii became a system with enormous library of easy to pick-up-and-play (and-throw-away) games. This eventually brought discontent among Big-N fanboys, who were, expecting better collection of games.

Wii and DS does have many good third-party games that are exclusive only to them, including Suda51′s No More Heroes, few Atlus games, Tales of Symphonia and so on. However, the advantage of having two mind-blowing control scheme (motion-control and touch screen) brought unwanted effect of third-party developers thinking that if they just make a half-baked game and appeal to the less informed public (AKA casual players) with ”unique” control scheme, they will have quick money. This trend of events drew the existing hardcore gamers to detract themselves from Nintendo’s console (except for those who are Big N fanboy to their bones, such as me) and that eventually led to chain reaction of hardcore games to be mostly released on XBOX360/PS3. As a owner of fairly high-end PC, and soon-to-be-owner of PS3, I do feel the Nintendo’s decision of downgrading the graphic and massively publicizing the unique control scheme was a double-edged plan, since, even though they did attract a lot of newcomers, they lost many of their truest fans. This very unfortunate turn of events gave Wii and DS (Especially Wii, since PSP is just dead as in gaming) the way it is now, with bunch of shovelware taking cash from the unexperience gamers while disgusting the hardcore gaming population.

Therefore, I believe that some games for Wii and DS should be made (although im pretty sure these will NEVER happen) to ensure the the publicity and trust from both casual and non-casual gamers(mostly hardcore gamers, because the casual gamers are having great time with their Wii-Sports alone). I am very aware of this kind of posts/lists/topics were made countless times, but I just had to make one myself. This list of games were picked based on personal preferences ONLY, and if you do not agree with the games I am about to present, and you feel these games should be thrown at your annoying 5-year-old brother, so be it, I wouldn’t mind, they need to get beatings anyway, just don’t throw at my face. Any disagreements or comment would be helpful, though, if presented in reasonable and courteous manner.

Touhou Project or Project Shrine Maiden (Wii)

Behold, Erin-sama strikes.

Genre: Shoot ‘em Up

About: For those who do not know what Touhou is, fear not, because this game is not much known on the Western World. However, in Japan, this game is one of the most massive hit in the doujin market, maybe even surpassing Tsukihime and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. The game is an arcade shooter, much like those 1945 Strike series that drained quarters out of your pockets in the game centre. The one thing about this game is that it is brutally hard, yet amazingly beautiful. The game is known as Curtain Shooting Genre, since the “curtains” of bullets appear on the screen, resembling colourful fabric. In the boss battles, the bullets pretty much fill the whole screen, and the players’ best chance is to recognize the pattern and hope their fingers moves fast enough. The game, as I said, is a massive hit in Japan, as well as in doujin communities all around the world. There are countless doujin games, novels, doujinshi, and MAD movies based on Touhou Project (type “東方 MAD” or “touhou mad” in Nicodong or even in Youtube, and you will see what I’m talking about), and the series is regarded as masterpiece every single time it appears on Comiket. Surprsingly, the game is sorely made by one person, ZUN, who also works for commercial game companies.

Why?: Let’s face it: Touhou Project is the one of the most entertaining, challenging, and beautiful shooter in the world. Those who haven’t tried it, be sure to check the Imperishable Night, I believe there’s a English patch for it, and personally, it’s the best of the series, not to mention that it is actually easy enough to beat the game for the beginners(on easy mode, of course). It is one of those old-school arcade games like Megaman and all: although the game is simple (and punishingly hard), you just want to play over and over again. Erin-san and Reisen owns too, so there we go. Moreover, the game has one of the best soundtracks on the history of gaming, so I think it definitely deserves a big-time debut.

How?: Since Touhou is fairly short game, I think one disc should contain at least 5 games. Or they may even utilize the dual layer technology to have every game on the series, from 1 to 10, plus the Immaterial and Missing Power(an official series of the game that is actually a fighting game rather than traditional shooter genre) and Bunkacho(a weird game where you take photo rather than shoot bullets). Or even a spin-off or real sequel would be alright too. And Phantasmagoria and Immaterial of Missing Power should have online-support.

Controls?: It’s a traditional arcade shooter, and it doesn’t really have to be on Wii, since it would not be a good idea to implement motion controls here(I don’t even know how that will work in the first place). But Wii is the best console to work with since it’s cheap for the developers to make. Anyway, the control, i believe, should be on classic controller. L/R as the SLOW button, B button as Spell Cards, A-button as Fire. Wii-mote would be a little hard one to work with, since using A-button is basically no-go for this kind of fast paced game. I’m thinking of holding Wii-mote horizontally, like when you would play Mario Kart Wii, with B-button on the bottom as slow button. 2 and 1 button can be Fire and Spell Card buttons respectively.

Possibility?: 0%. Sadly, one can only dream this game to come true. ZUN, the developer of the series, officially stated that Touhou series will never be on commercial world. If it did, the series would have been already ported to PS2, DS and so on, with anime series spanning at least over 2 seasons with at least 52 episodes. So, keep dreaming fellas, it will never happen. Ever. Although, there is a fan-made homebrew game project that is going on right now for those of you who have modded your Wii.

Genre: “Tactical Espionage Action” or Stealth Action. You choose.

About: … So. Solid Snake. Should I even elaborate what this game is about? Haven’t we all, at least once in our life, heard of this bandana-wearing, cigar-smoking, Nikita-wielding spy who reads Playboy magazine under his cardboard box? This game is a spy game that pretty much invented the genre.

Why?: … So. Solid Snake. Should I even elaborate why this game should be on Wii? Any fan of gaming will welcome the all-time favourite <del datetime="00">pervert</del> spy to conquer the “Family-Friendly” console and blow it up with C4 million times over. Man, wouldn’t it be great. And personally, Twin Snake, GC remake of the original Metal Gear Solid on PS1, was a great success as in gameplay, and I think it is the best game I have on GC.

How?: To continue with Twin Snake’s path, a MGS2 remake wouldn’t be bad. Or, a remake of MGS2 Substance. However, a spin-off of the series would be a nice welcome, since everyone seems to love the word “Original”. Online support would be nice too.

Controls?: This game, since it wouldn’t be much different visually from the original (or if it’s a spin-off it would be significantly uglier than MGS4), will have to use a lot of unique motion control scheme Wii has to offer to be “different”. The game will be played with Nunchuck and Wii-mote. It will be fairly straightforward, with A-button being Action and B-button being attack. 1 or 2 should be the CODEC, C-button to crouch, and possibly Z-button to go into first person mode. However, if it is a spin-off, they should implement the MGS4 control scheme, which highlitened more on action and shooting, but still keeping the stealth part intact.

Possibility?: 20%. Right now, Kojima is having rest after finishing MGS4. We should give him some time to think about this, although it is very unlikely that this will happen. However, he did make a game for DS(Lunar Knights or Bokura no Taiyou 4), so who is to say he won’t make another remake for everyone’s favourite spy adventure on the Nintendo’s console?

Okami Spin-off (DS)

Amaterasu-sama will draw sun on you face.

Genre: Action-Adventure

About: Capcom’s Zelda-clone became a unique franchise when it was first released on PS2. The ability to use Celestial Brush was refreshing take on the already populated genre, and by the result, the game turned out to be a masterpiece, enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its mentor, the Legend of Zelda. However, PS2′s limited controls blocked the Celestial Brush to be at its best, and it was then when the publisher decided to make a port of this graphically stunning game for the Wii. Now the game seems to be more engaging, thanks to Wii’s unique control scheme and still holds its value after number of years.

Why?: Anyone remember Pictochat? Yes, the free software that is included in your DS firmware to hug you everytime you turn on DS but no one really uses it. Pictochat and other games that make you draw proved that DS’s touch screen is best for drawing than any other system. So, drawing and brush… see where I am going? Yes, it would be amazing to use Celestial Brush with your stylus. Not only it would be easier, but it would just feel natural to draw, rather than wiggle your hand in the air or (for godsake) spin your thumb to draw circle with analog stick.

How?: It would be a spin-off. I haven’t finished the game myself so I am not sure if the game has capability of being a franchise. The game will be similar to the original game with full 3D, beautiful graphic that uses DS’s hardware to its fullest, and stylus controlled. One other option one can have is top-down camera, something like what they did with Phatom Hourglass. In that case, some of the Celestial Brushing skills would have to be revised, especially the sun, since you won’t use it since you really can’t see the sky.

Controls?: Completely Stylus controlled. Attack will be done with slicing the touch screen with stylus and so-on. However, one thing I am not sure is how the second screen on the top will be utilized. I really loved the note-taking map on Phantom Hourglass, and not sure if it should be utilized in a game that’s already called as Zelda-clone. Another thing is the moving. I believe L-button should definitely be used to pop Celestial Brush screen up, and then it makes an option of played controlling the character with D-pad. So, it’s up to developer’s choice, if they are making one.

Possibility?: 2%. Chances are, we will never see this come true. First of all, Clover Studio, the original developers of the game, were dissolved by Capcom, so we won’t see their games ever again(well, they made Platinum Games and are making MadWorld and Infinite Line, but chance of them gaining the franchise right is very slim, if not impossible). and second of all, although Capcom did release the port of the game on Wii through ReadyAtDawn Studio, I wouldn’t count on them making another, full-fledged, different Okami. Maybe Capcom is busy with RE5, who knows.

Final Fantasy VI remake (DS)

Locke, you bastard. Celes is mine, I say, mine!

Genre: RPG

About: This game, I believe, is the best RPG ever made. Yes, I think it is above FF7. Yes, I think it is better than FF10. Yes, I may be little crazy. But this game was my first real JRPG, and it was made so well that I, a turn-based-RPG-hater, converted myself into the epicness of JRPG’s. The game has about 14 playable characters, much more than a normal FF game. The storyline is one of the best on the series, and is constantly recognized as one of the series’ best entry. And Tina’s Theme (the Overworld theme or Terra’s Theme in NA) owns too much to be ignored. And I believe the game has one of the most memorable villain in the history of FF, or even gaming history itself, as the devilish Kefka’s actions are enough to make you shiver even through 16-bit style graphic.

Why?: Most recently, Square Enix released FFIV on DS, completely remade with 3D graphic, only to be acclaimed as the Best DS RPG around. Now, do that with FF6. … It’s too much for me to even imagine. The opera scene would be epic. Truly epic. And Kefka’s laugh will be once more full of evil. And Edgar’s chainsaw would be most impressive. And Celes would be really hot. I mean, really hot.

How?: same as FF3 and FF4 remake. Just don’t make it like DQ4 or Chrono Trigger where they kept the same graphics. I want a whole new game, Square, just don’t forget that.

Controls?: Just like I said, it should be same as FF3 and FF4 remake.

Possibility?: 70%. From looking at Square’s recent milkage of remakes on DS, this one might actually come true, should come true, and must come true. This is one instance where milking is welcome.

Portal Wii

I love thee.

Genre: First-Person-Puzzle

About: Once upon a time, there was a computer named GlaDOS. She really loved cake. But unfortunate GlaDOS was not able to make a cake. So GlaDOS tricked a person to be in a science experiment and be baked as…[indistinguishable voice and static] Unforunately, GlaDOS was destroyed by the person and her adorable companion cube. And she still resides in our heart, singing Still Alive…

Why?: Because the cake is a lie.

How?: By having [Subeject Name Here] to be baked as… [indistinguishable voice and static]

Controls?: A-button for Blue Portal, B-Button for Orange Portal, C for jumping, Z for action.

Possibility?: 0.05%. Maybe BLACK MESSA. That was a Joke. HAHA. Fat Chance.

Gyakuten Saiban Wii (or Ace Attorney Wii)

Objection!! I am Kira.

Genre: Courtroom Adventure

About: “Objection!” is all you really need to know about this game. This is kind of game where you challenge the police corruption and inefficiency of our justice system with throwing evidences and witnesses’ faces and spamming “Objection” every single time anyone says anything. Warning: this game holds potential to break through the barrier between the reality and virtual reality. You might go out and point at you fat-ass teacher and yell out “Objection!”, with sudden urge to right the wrong. However, Capcom is not held responsible for any kinds of events or damages caused by these types of incidents and highly advise the players to realize Mia Fey does not exist.

Why?:
Pheonix – Objection! I believe the prosector is asking a redundant question.
Judge – Objection sustained. I do not see why the prosecutor should ask such a dumb question.
Edgeworth – … What!! Gu…….

How?: More episodes(about 10 episodes), motion-control utilization(something like what they did in the fourth one with finger prints and all), maybe voice actings(keep the Japanese voice, I beg you). But the most important thing is the Wii-Speak. A person needs to say “Objection!” playing this game. Otherwise it’s like playing Guitar Hero with no volume.

Controls?: This is a visual novel game. All you really need is A-button. And maybe B-button for the Court Records and Profiles. and hold 1-button for yelling “Objection”. Other than that, it will be fairly straightforward, other than some evidence handling parts.

Possibility?: 10%. Capcom is now making Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor would be the literal translation) and also the PC version of the games. Sam & Max made it to wii, so why not Pheonix Wright? Although I do highly doubt that, if this game does come to Wii, it would be a new game with new storyline. Capcom will be cheap and they will give us another port. (sigh)

Burnout Wii

Did I get Aftertouch? Did I get it, Goddamn it!!

Genre: The Official Breaker of Friendship

About: Personally, first time I played Burnout was in Bestbuy, trying out the all-new Revenge(which is not that old). Back then, I thought it was just a generic racing game. But these cars –very, very aggressive cars– started to run into me. So I was very confused, because I was sure they don’t really do that in Gran Turisumo. Well, it turned out that Burnout wasn’t really a racing game. I worked at my local community recreational centre, and they had an XBOX and the Take Down. To me, the game was one of the best game I have ever played. I never had so much fun racing (… fine, running into somebody, if you really want to call it like that) since I played Mario Kart on my very first console, SNES. The graphics were top-notch, and running into somebody was just damn too fun, especially during split-screen and owning the guy very next you. This game is one of those games that succeeds the path of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., and breaks the strongest bonds of friendship with just one shot.

Why?: Wii’s control, I believe, is best for two kinds of games: racing and FPS. Sadly, both are also the one of the most weakest selection in Wii’s library. And of course, Burnout is a such a well executed game that it needs to be on every console, no matter the reason.

How?: Port, remake or Wii-Exclusive. I don’t really care, just bring it over here, goddamn it.

Controls?: It’s a racing game. So obviously it will utilize the motion-controls used in Excite Truck and Mario Kart Wii. But motion-control should be modified a little because as eveyone felt it with Mario Kart, the one with Wii-Mote just can’t beat the one using GC-controller. A classic controller, Nunchuck, and GC-controller option would be essential.

Possibility?: 50%. The game is owned by EA, so that’s little hard, but EA do make games for Wii. As long as EA themselves don’t make it and leave the development to the Criterion Games, it will be epic. But the game hasn’t been announced yet, and EA may just be a bitch as they always used to be and just decides to release shovelware after shovelware for poor Nintendo’s console. Seriously, why can’t Wii get something like Dead Space from EA?

Kingdom Hearts III (Wii)

Riku pwns all.

Genre: Action-Role Playing

About: Disney + Square. That’s all there needs to be said. Another good thing is that developers are a team in Square Enix, so don’t worry about getting something like High School Musical. They know what they are doing, and they know it good. And you get to beat up monsters with huge key. And you play as a spiky hair dude. That’s classic. That’s Square.

Why?: Final Fantasy went to PS3 and XBOX360. Shin Megami Tensei went to PS3. Dragon Quest went to DS(we will have to see more of this to know if Square’s going to make DQ only on DS rom from now on though). Tales is multiplatform, as it was always used to be and will be. Star Ocean went to XBOX360. I think that pretty much sums up why at least Kingdom Hearts should be exclusively on Wii.

How?: A full-fledged sequel. And no High School Musical or anything like that.

Controls?: Not really sure, because I haven’t played the game in a while, and I don’t know how the console versions work. Maybe a wiggling of Wii-mote for attack? But then again, it’s a card-based system, so button should feel more natural.

Possibility?: 10%. Sadly, Square isn’t really paying much attention to Wii other than for spin-offs. The good thing is, though, Kingdom Hearts III is not announced yet, and Square is currently focusing on making spin-offs of the series on handhelds, so we will have to see how this will turn out.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 4 (Wii)

Red 1, Red 1, where the hell are you, over.

Genre: Space Combat Sim

About: Rogue Squadron 1, released on N64, was recognized as one of the most beautiful game of the time. Then, Rogue Squadron 2 invaded GC on its launching day, only to be known as one of the best looking game of the generation(some says Wedge Antilles, the pilot, has more poligon than Leon from RE4, which was released fairly late in the GC’s life-span), not to mention the terrific gameplay designs. Although Rogue Squadron 3 did fell little short, most critics agreed it was an enjoyable game with good graphics. It is one of the best flight sim out there, although it is little on the hard side.

Why?: Rogue Squadron was always Nintendo’s boy. And right now, Nintendo really lacks in flight sims. And no good Star Wars game was released in a while(Force Unleashed wasn’t that good). And as a hardcore Star Wars nerd, I want to pilot X-Wing once more and blow up Death Star. Flying in Battlefront series wasn’t really there. I had a dillema of which one to put on the list between this and Jedi Knight series, but after looking at Force Unleashed, I realized action games should be button-controlled. And Jedi Knight is originally a first-person shooter(play the first and second one. it’s first-person. Well, the second one starts out as first-person and changes.), so it deserves great graphics. But Rogue Squadron needs motion controls. It will be just damn too fun.

How?: I haven’t played the third of the series myself, because I just couldn’t get it. But I heard the on-foot missions in the third one wasn’t executed very well, so my suggestion is to take it out completely. The game’s title is “Squadron”, so focus on combat sim. And I also heard that classic battles were now all covered, so why not in Clone Wars Era? Battle of Coruscant would be dazzling to see. Just don’t make another Lair, that’s all.

Controls?: Latest Factor 5 interview suggests that they really like the IR-aiming of the Wii-mote, so why not use that.

Possibility?: 50%. This one, surprisingly, looks like it has potential to be true. First of all, Factor 5 IS making a game for Wii right now, and although the publisher is not decided yet, it may be LucasArts after all. And also, LucasArts is making a Rogue Squadron compilation, with all three games in one disc, with motion controls. There are definitely some light on here, and we will have to see if this one is actually going to true. But personally, any Factor 5 game would be a nice welcome, as long as they don’t make another Lair.

Other Games

Golden Sun (DS/Wii) – I haven’t played the game myself, only got to about first 2 hour or so. Therefore, I really don’t know anything about the game, only that this is a defenitive Nintendo fantasy RPG. Wii really needs a major RPG game, and right now, all I can think of is Arc Rise Fantasia and Tales of Symphonia 2. But it may just turnout to be a handheld follow-up, like its predecessors. Anyway, Golden Sun did look good on GBA, and Nintendo really needs original RPG franchise on their consoles.

GTA: San Andreas Stories (Wii) – Godfather was awesome game on Wii, and San Andreas was awesome game on PS2. Mix those two, with Godfather control schemes and San Andreas gamepley and storyline, you get yourself a great gang game.

The World Ends With You (Wii version or DS sequel) – this is same case with the KIngdom Hearts: Wii need a definitive RPG franchise. This unique game seems to be little on anime style to be on 360 and PS3 so let Wii have it. Or DS sequel would be awesome.

F-Zero (Wii) – Seriously. When are you coming back, Captain Falcon?

Lately, i got into skin making for my m3 ds real firmware, since i couldnt find something suitable for me. The skin actually came out pretty nicely, and although it is not complete yet, I am satisfied with the product.

First, to be warned, this is skin made by me, which means it is intended for somewhat limited audiances. In other words, it’s not for everyone. It does have some content that won’t be seen as good by parents, your girl friends, your boy friends(plz no), or even friends in general, and teachers, your 10 year old brother, and so on. This skin is intended for those who seek beauty among lolis and anime characters in general, and i say again, it is not intended for everyone. I used Skin2 on the default firmware, and based on that, I edited almost everything to create my own skin.

To start, I used twin DS-tans on the top. I found the idea pretty cool, since it is DS and since the top screen doesn’t do anyting, might well as put something that represent the system, no? Well, obviously in a otaku-way i guess.

the top screen display

The problem I’m having with this though, is that for some weird reason, anything that is displayed on top screen is always 8-bit, rather than 24-bit like the ones that are displayed on the bottom screen. No offense to Megaman 9, but when you save an image in 8-bit BMP, it goes pretty ugly, and I think I should find a better converter rather than saving it with Paint.

the bottom screen background

Now, this is the part where things get somewhat *inappropriate*. Well, yeah, there are three girls half naked, whatever, but really, if you are not in this kind, i suggest you don’t use this skin, to save urself from misunderstanding from your friends, parents, teachers, co-workers, God, etc. Otherwise, go right ahead. Anyway, this the the bottom screen part, where basically everything is handled from browsing files to options. Since that’s the case, i toned the brightness down, so i can see the words more clearly.

My basic colour concept for this skin was ALL PINK, simply because I love cherry blossoms, and I love the name Sakura and I love the song “Sakuranbo” by Otsuka Ai, and my favourite eroge is Sore wa Maichiru Sakura no Yowoni, and one of my favourite f/sn character is Sakura, I love Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, and so on. (the list will continue till the end of time) Hell, I even wanted to buy pink DS but I got crimson because I was afraid that EB games clerk was gonna look at me as if I’m gay. Anyway, this is almost All Pink skin, so if that’s not your thing, because you are manly and hairy or whatever, then this is not your thing.

Now, for the main screen buttons, I replaced the originals with my favourite characters. Once again, i stress that this was suppose to be a personal skin that wasn’t meant to be shared with others. I just got into it so much, i thought i would share with someone with same interest as me. Anyway, I used Louise Francoise de La Barielfor NDS menu , Suigintou as GBA menu, C.C. as MyCard Menu, Yuki as Boot Menu, Kagami as Media, Fate Testarossa as PDA menu, and Hinagiku as Settings Menu. I like how these came up real nicely, (well, at least to me) Although I sometimes think i should have gotten better image for Yuki. The order doesnt really matter, although my top three charcaters (Louise, Suigintou, and Hinagiku) all postioned on the buttons i use frequently(NDS, GBA, and setting).

In the Boot menu, there are two buttons; one lets you boot from slot-1, and the other, from slot-2. I was thinking it would be cool to put two characters who are related to each other, like twin and stuff. I was thinking of Higurashi, but then I realized I really don’t like Higurashi characters that much(cept for Hanyu), so I decided to use Vocaloids. I used Rin and Miku, Rin being the slot-1, while Miku is slot-2. It worked out nicely, especially since the both images are actually from one image that had both characters on it.

For all the other icons (gba files, folders in MyCard, and some EXE file i don’t know what it does), I used Tamami, Rea and Tomoyo. These characters are probably less familliar to some of the people(well, not Tomoyo, I guess), since they are all based from eroge. Anyway, I like these, and personally think they look better than the ones on the older skin.

And I changed the loading bar, where before it was just green bar, now it’s the shuffle characters, or, if you want to be precise, their eyes. And other thing is that i changed the loading screen with Vita, but this cannot be changed after you changed it(unless u get another one and save it over the old one).

hmm so i found these hacks that undub ds games

so im trying out Disgaea DS and The World Ends With You one.

since im big fan of japanese seiyuus(voice actors)*,

I wanna try out some more roms myself. (probably with dslazy)

the one im thinking of right now is Princess Maker 4 SE

i cant really do it right now, since the koreanized game(no english localization) is not out yet. but according to the company, they are changing the voices to korean, which, i belive, is the most dumbest thing ever heard in my life. I mean, they had Mizuki Nana as the daughter. That’s illogical. I mean, have ever watched Nanoha without thinking Fate can be ur girlfriend? (well uhh yeah she’s ur daughter but there’s an ending where she becomes ur wofe. i know it kinda sounds sick but keep in mind that she’s not ur actual daughter, and u can be young enuff to make that seem somewhat plausible)

well anyway, but the problem is that there are these changes they are making, most significantly on the touch section. In japanese version, you can touch ur daughter on the head, shoulders, and uhhh chest(uhh euphemism for “breast” i guess), and uhh THAT part on the lower part. however, in korean version, there’s this problem where they took out the THAT part and the chest part, and put the touch point on the stomach (wtf i hate u guyz damn it). Now, the seiyuu is suppose to make different comment every single time the daughter is touched(this sounds really sick), and since there are only four touch part, im not sure if it will work right.

and another problem is that they will probably delete some endings, looking at past koreanized games (u know, they banned Empire Strikes Back from playing in theatres, so god knows what they will do this time), especially the one ending where u can merry the daughter(promoting incest and all. damn it, i mean, did u see ppl swinging chains and ripping ppl in half when god of war was out? geez), and im not sure how that will effect the voice. And last time i checked on the japanese version, i couldnt find the “voice off” option(which i was really hoping), but i probably have missed it cuz i didnt know how to get into options in first place(or maybe i was int he options menu, just that i didnt know it).

so anyone care to help me out here will be great.

* Im not saying english ones are bad, but they just dont fit in anime style. For instance, i believe animes on 4kids or cartoon network adults swim have seiyuus that just dont go well with the style, partly because i watched them already on japanese, and they just arent meant to be in english. However, if it is english game, or cartoon, they fit perfectly. For example, i personally think the person who did voice for max payne should get awards after awards because that voice just fits. (Im hoping Mark will be up there with the original voice in the upcoming movie)
